summer season

During the summer season things in general run way more quiet. The mountains of the ski resorts turn into hotspots for relaxed hiking and in addition the surrounding mountain ridges offer tracks for all kind of mountain enthusiasts.

Saalfelden, for example, has on the one side the well known "Steinernes Meer" with advanced tracks and climbing lines in the back on the other side the south lying grassy mountains are perfect for mountain biking or relaxed hiking.

If one travels even more towards the south, the mountains of one of Austria's best known national-park appear. This park is called "Nationalpark Hohe Tauern" and the mountains within this area not only represent the main barrier of the Alps, they also host a lot of sightseeing highlights.

Close and very quick to reach are for instance the "Großglockner Hauptstraße", die high mountain reservoirs of Kaprun and the waterfalls of Krimml. Beside that you can even visit a glacier and a view point lying on 3000 m altitude by utilizing the cable cars of Kaprun's ski resort. This resort is opened more or less all year long and makes skiing even during the summer possible.

Coming back to the classical summer activities of the region, it has to be mentioned, that from many sides great attention is paid to offer premium possibilities for mountain-bikers. A large net of tracks is officially opened for mountain-biking under the label "Rad & Bike Pinzgau" and one of Austria's most renowned bike parks is located in Leogang (bike park Leogang).
